Check if your project is suitable

Conditions

Is your project suitable for MossCrete™?

MossCrete can be applied to a wide range of facades and structures. To ensure a successful moss facade, every project is assessed against a number of practical and structural conditions.

Substrate

A brick wall being blasted with a high-pressure jet
Plaster
Dark profiled metal facade panels seen from below
Panels

Plaster is only possible on coarse, mineral substrates such as concrete or masonry. If the substrate is too smooth, it is roughened first. Non-mineral substrates are not suitable for plaster; in that case Respyre’s facade panel system is used instead.

Facade layout

A large, closed concrete facade without windows
Large, closed surfaces
A facade with many rows of windows
Many interruptions

Large, continuous facade surfaces are the most efficient. Interruptions such as windows and recesses are possible, but they require custom work and should stay limited.

Construction

For facade cladding, whether panels or plaster, the load-bearing capacity of the existing wall must be sufficient. The maximum load will be approx. 40 kg/m².

South-facing facades

Shaded facades are the most suitable. Facades with high sun and wind exposure, such as south-facing walls, need extra attention in design and irrigation.

Growing season

The moss coating is applied between March and September.

Reference project

Ideal starting situation

The reference project shows the type of project where the system performs best.

  • A project of at least 100 m²
  • An industrial building
  • Few windows: a large, continuous surface without many interruptions
  • Preferably no south-facing facade, because too much direct sun dries out the moss layer
  • Water available on site, for even and more predictable growth
  • An easily accessible facade, which keeps installation simple
